The winter concert season of Jazzkaar – Winter Jazz brings joy to the listeners from 7 February to 20 March, 2016. During the season the audience can enjoy the world premiere of Rein Rannap’s masterpiece, Laura Remmel’s tribute to the legendary Marju Kuut, the bright vocalist Eldbjorg Raknes from Norway, the French video-acoustic show “Mister Melies & Geo Smile” and much more.

The season will start on 7 February with the ensemble Heliotroop featuring outstanding Estonian jazz musicians Kadri Voorand, Meelis Vind, Kirke Karja, Marek Talts, Mingo Rajandi, and Eno Kollom. They will perform the compositions on of Mingo Rajandi and Kirke Karja to the texts of Estonian poets.

 

On the 70th birthday of Marju Kuut on 12 February, charismatic singer Laura Remmel with Heikko and Joel Remmel, Reigo Ahven and Raivo Tafenau will perform pearls from the repertoire of the diva. Marju Kuut has made a remarkable contribution to the Estonian jazz legacy and immortalized many songs by Estonian composers.

 

On 28 February, one of the brightest vocalists of Norwegian new jazz, Eldbjorg Raknes, will perform with an intimate northern programme. The rich orchestral colours and unique sound will captivate the audience. On 6 March, it’s possible to enjoy the French music and film project “Mister Méliès & Geo Smile”. The video-acoustic concert is inspired by the works of one of the top directors of the early French film art, Georges Méliès.

 

On 10 March, the composer-pianist Rein Rannap will premier a three-part concert “Concerto in Rock”, written in the traditional key of rock, for Hammond organ, rock band, symphonic orchestra. In the second part of the concert, the forbidden songs of Ruja on Jüri Üdi’s texts which were written more than 40 years ago, will be publicly performed for the first time. Vocals by Kristjan Kannukene, rock band, the big band of Otsakool, and a choir Collegium Musicale. The winter programme will conclude on 20 March with the improvisational solo concert “Duod” by Taavi Kerikmäe, where the partners of the pianist will be various keyboards and electronics.
