Vaba Lava
The opening concert of the Jazzkaar 2022 will feature a joint work by Estonian jazz composers – pianist Joel Remmel and double bassist Peedu Kass – dedicated to the Estonian forest, its power and the need to preserve it.
For centuries, the forest has been a place of mystical power and peace and security for Estonians. Estonians love to communicate with the forest and gather new energy from it. The species-rich Estonian forests are naturally occurring, which has been weakened by intensive clear-cutting in recent decades. The work of the composer duo Kass and Remmel is both a song of praise for nature that supports human existence and a sharp blues for felling sites. The listener of the concert can experience the squeaky wild wind, the pine breaking under the storm wind or the saw, the eternal emptiness and beauty of the bog fields.
