UNESCO city of music Tallinn & Katowice JazzArt Festival present!

trio_io (PL) – was established in the autumn on 2018 in Katowice, Poland. Electro-acustic trio performing a fusion of contemporary chamber music and free improvisation. Their music is a product of three minds, three different musical languages, three different origins. Their meeting gave rise to open forms which draw inspiration from the tradition of music by contemporary composers, experiments with prepared instruments and elements of free jazz and folk music. Their music can simply be classified as new music.  They have played at many important jazz and contemporary music festivals such as:

Jazz Art Katowice, Jazz Jantar Gdańsk , Audio Art Kraków, Interpenetration Graz etvc.

Zofia Ilnicka – Flutist, improviser, composer. Born in 1990. She studied at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, graduating in 2016 For many years closely associated with the performance of new and improvised music. She is an artist boldly exploring advanced performance techniques. Involved in many jazz, free-impro and contemporary music projects. She collaborates with numerous composers, consulting their works. She draws her inspiration from the music of Brian Ferneyhough, Dominik Karski and Steve Reich.

Łukasz Marciniak – (1984), guitarist, composer, music lover. Co-creator of Brzoska Kolektyw and El topo. Author of music for silent films and performances. In solo activities, he works on his own language of articulation. In his music he uses space and breath and is combining them with noise and electronics. He draws her inspiration from the music of Helmut Lachenmann and John Zorn.

Jakub Wosik – born in 1991 in Chrzanów. Violinist, composer and improviser. He studied at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, graduating in 2016. I started to improvise as soon as I fell in love with jazz as a teenager. The most interesting for me in improvising is how to blend with other musicians and create structures and colours. All that I can explore in free improvisation and it’s even better if I can use my violin in non-traditional way. My favorite composers are Henryk Wieniawski, Ryszard Lubieniecki.
