Having taken a short break after the release of their excellent album Two Minds & Two Lines, Tafenau & Vind Duo will be performing again at this year’s Jazzkaar with a new programme. Members of the cream of Estonian jazz, saxophonist Raivo Tafenau and clarinettist Meelis Vind represent two different musical ways of thinking, resulting soundscapes both abstract and true to the origins. This time they will be joined by Ricardo Padilla, a versatile percussionist and specialist in Latin American music with his impressive arsenal of rhythm instruments. You can expect a wonderful maze of rhythms, lyrical melodies and unpredictable improvisations.

Saxophonist Raivo Tafenau is an internationally active musician who has released ten albums, participated in many recordings and has been active as the artistic director of the Taff Club jazz club in Tallinn Old Town. He was chosen as the Musician of the Year by Estonian Radio in 1994 and won the prestigious Elion Jazz Award in 2010. Clarinettist and composer Meelis Vind is a versatile musician who plays in the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra as well as in various new music ensembles, including the Estonian Dream Big Band. In 2012 he won the Annual Award of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. Helsinki-based Chilean percussionist Ricardo Padilla is a true world music chameleon whose vast experience in a multitude of musical cultures led him to teaching ethnic percussion at the Sibelius Academy’s Folk and Global Music Departments.
