This year’s Autumn Jazz opens with a special encounter, while also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the French agency Vapaat Äänet’s activities in Estonia. Founded in Helsinki by Charles Gil, the agency has, over the decades, introduced Estonian audiences to numerous distinctive and noteworthy French artists, playing a significant role in shaping the local jazz scene.
The Franco-Norwegian trio T.I.M. (Tomorrow Is Minimalist) brings together French pianist and composer Sébastien Palis and Norwegian avant-garde musicians Inger Hannisdal Hardinger and Karoline Wallace. Their music inhabits the borderlands between folk, improvisation, ambient music and contemporary jazz, creating dreamlike and constantly evolving sonic landscapes. Within the trio’s sound, motifs inspired by childhood memories, elements of chance, and a subtle sensitivity to electronic textures merge into a cohesive whole.
T.I.M. has also attracted attention through the prestigious Jazz Migration programme, which highlights some of the most exciting emerging jazz ensembles in Europe. Their performances are both delicate and hypnotic – music that is in no hurry to get anywhere, but instead invites listeners to gradually sink into its immersive sound world.
