Steve Gadd’s – who is one of the most influential contemporary drummers – unique sense of rhythm is heard on the most famous pop, rock, and jazz albums, and on numerous concert tours.

The list of his collaborations is baffling – Simon & Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Joe Cocker, Chick Corea, Al Di Meola, George Benson, Peter Gabriel, B.B. King, Ray Charles, Herb Alpert, Mike Manieri, Brecker Brothers, Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Joe Sample, and several other top artists. Gadd has played on many Grammy-nominated albums and for nearly half a century, he is one of the most sought-after musicians both in the studio and on concert stages – he is valued for his fantasy-rich skill of blending styles. From the mid-60s, he is bound by friendship with Chick Corea, whose super trio he played at with Christian McBride. In 2007, the trio won a Grammy for the album ‘The Ultimate Adventure’. “Every drummer wants to play like Gadd because he plays perfect…. He has brought orchestral and compositional thinking to the drum kit while at the same time having a great imagination and a great ability to swing,” says Chick Corea.

At the age of 7, Steve Gadd started his drum studies, his role models were drummers Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones and Rick Marotta with his minimal playing style. Gadd’s first studio work was taking part of Gap Mangione’s debut album ‘Diana in the Autumn Wind’ in 1968. In 49 years, more than a thousand recordings with various top musicians have been added to that, a big part of them have also gained the status of a gold record. Gadd continues to be a very sought-after studio drummer. Next to that, he makes time for his own bands. In 1972, Gadd formed a trio, during the same decade, The Gadd Gang was active for a while. In 1982 he recorded his first solo album. In the 80s he toured, among others, with Paul Simon and Al Di Meola Electric Rendezvous Band, he also took part in Frank Sinatra’s album ‘LA is my Lady’. The beginning of the century brought him collaborations with artists like Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Michel Petrucciani, Peter Gabriel, Mike Stern, Michael Brecker, and others.

In the new decade, Gadd has performed with his bands Steve Gadd Gang, Steve Gadd & Friends, Gaddbout, L’image and Steve Gadd Band. In the last decade, he’s been a good partner to artists like Peter Gabriel, James Taylor, Brian Setzer, in addition to the lasting friendship with Paul Simon, Chick Corea, and Eric Clapton. Steve Gadd’s drum clinics are also extremely popular. Rolling Stone magazine has placed Gadd on the 24th position in the top 100 best drummers throughout time.

There probably isn’t a country where Steve Gadd hasn’t performed. He is also much awaited also at big jazz festivals from New York to Montreux. He will be coming to Tallinn as part of his 2017 spring tour “Way Back Home Tour” with Kevin Hais (keyboards), Jimmy Johnson (bass), Michael Landau (guitar), and Walt Fowler (trumpet).

Steve Gadd Band was nominated for the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category at the 59th Grammy awards alongside Bill Frisell and Snarky Puppy.

‘Steve Gadd is comparably the same to planet Earth’s music community as Elizabeth II is for the British – one of the last real legends and successors of the royal line.’
