The career of bassist Christian McBride has been a real tour de force. He has played with superstars such as Paul McCartney, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Chick Corea, James Brown, Sting and Isaac Hayes. His playing style is dynamic and charged, full of nuances. The eight-time Grammy winner will perform at Jazzkaar with his new, youthful quintet bursting with energy.

Christian McBride perfectly maintains the connection between the past and the future of jazz. His music has drawn inspiration from jazz innovators like Max Roach, Charles Mingus and Eric Dolphy, while also nodding approvingly towards R&B, rock and hip-hop. McBride’s virtuoso bass playing can be heard on more than 300 recordings. In addition to the great music that he has created over several decades, McBride’s contribution to the renewal of jazz education and the promotion of jazz music are also highly valued. He is the artistic director of the Newport Jazz and James Moody Jazz festivals and hosts NPR’s radio program Jazz Night in America.
