The Urban Project by Jazzkaar happens for ninth time this year. City-dwellers are surprised with almost 100 events. Jazz music is performed on streets, trams, amidst traffic, on windows, at airport and numerous other places. The performers are young musicians, dancers and artists all over Estonia. The Urban Project also visits Harju county, Tartu, Viljandi and Pärnu via railway.
To get youngsters experience jazz music the project brings musicians to 9 different schools of Tallinn. Exciting and fresh, the masterfully presented music encourages to discover the wonders of music and find new hobbies. In kindergartens the project invites children to draw and paint to music. Swing, latin rhythms, funk and Estonian golden era jazz can be heard at the Balti Jaam Market. An educational program goes to Astangu Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, Autism Day Centre and to the Northern Estonian Visually Impaired Society.
Music flirts with dance when Tallinn Swing Dance Society and young break dancers join forces with the musicians.
Tradition keeps strong with the lunch concerts taking place at Jazzkaar’s partner Reval Café’s, Layk studio café in Viljandi, Mahedik café in Pärnu and at popular restaurant Kivi Paber Käärid in Tallinn.
The Urban Project partners are Georg Ots’ Tallinn Music School, Heino Eller’s Tartu Music School, Univerity of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, Estonian Music and Theatre Academy, Pärnu Music School and Saue Music School.
Jazzkaar thanks the supporters Estonian Endowment Fund, Talinn Education Department, Elron,
Reval Café, Caffeine, the schools and venue hosts.
