The 28th International Festival Jazzkaar starts today. During 10 days until April 30, more than 75 concerts by musicians from 22 countries will take place in Tallinn. In addition, the festival will reach 11 other locations in Estonia. For the 3rd year, Jazzkaar finds its home at the Telliskivi Creative Center.
The festival’s first day will feature composer-saxophonist Maria Faust and Danish singer-songwriter Kira Skov (19:30) who have brought together their fiery creative energy and together created the piece ‘In the Beginning’ for a choir and a band. Dutch drum legend Han Bannink (21:00) will be sharing the stage with guitar player Jaak Sooäär, and singers Laura Põldvere and Kadri Voorand. Manchester trio GoGo Penguin (22:30) defines their sound as acoustic electronic and they combine the elements of triphop, jazz, rock, and classical music in it. At 23:59 the festival day will be drawn to a close by Estonian electropop group I Wear* Experiment.
Jazzkaar 2017 is headlined by 5-time Grammy winner Dianne Reeves, drum legend Steve Gadd, club music trio GoGo Penguin, singer-bassist Meshell Ndegeocello and fusion-jazz group Spyro Gyra.
