Tallinn International Festival JAZZKAAR 2016 taking place 22 April – 1 May will bring together musicians from different continents, among others the Grammy-winner saxophone player and composer Chris Potter and the Norwegian singer and multi-instrumentalist Bernhoft. The sale of festival passes and tickets to those two concerts starts 10:00 on Friday, 11 December at Piletilevi.
27th Jazzkaar festival 2016 takes place in Telliskivi Creative City – at the Vaba Lava complex, the Red House, and Nordea Concert Hall. The first acts announced of the spring’s biggest jazz party are the saxophonist-composer-band leader from USA, the Grammy winner Chris Potter and the first Norwegian artist to get a Grammy nomination for the best r’n’b album is the singer-composer-multi-instrumentalist Bernhoft.
One of the main acts of the festival, Chris Potter, is one of the most popular saxophonists of the world today. On the 25th jubilee of Jazzkaar, he performed at a sold out concert at Nordea Concert Hall with Pat Metheny Unity Group. The musician has released 15 albums with his bands and taken part in more than a hundred albums of other top artists. The saxophonist’s last two albums ‘The Sirens’ (2013) and ‘Imaginary Cities’ (2015) were released under the renowned ECM label. During the spring tour of 2016, Chris Potter will perform with his quartet that features the highly praised musicians David Virelles, Joe Martin, and Marcus Gilmore. The Chris Potter Quartet concert is taking place at 21:00 on 27 April 2016 at Vaba Lava.
The singer-composer-multi-instrumentalist Jarle Bernhoft is the most popular male singer in Norway today. His music has been compared to Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. He charmed the audience already in 2008 with his album ‘Ceramik City Chronicles’ that gave him a spin into stardom. The third album ‘Islander’, that we will hear tracks from at Jazzkaar, has been very successful. The sales numbers are six-figure and his video ‘C’Mon Talk’ has been watched on YouTube for 4,5 million times. Bernhoft’s concert is taking place at 21:00 on 23 Aprill at Vaba Lava.
Chosen as the best music festival by the Estonian music industry in 2015, Jazzkaar will again take place at Telliskivi Creative City by filling the area with good music, exhibitions, and cafes. The spring jazz party will have concerts in two buildings – at Vaba Lava, and Red House. Throughout the festival, musicians can also be spotted in other places of the creative city.
