On the eve of International Women’s Day, March 7, Jazzkaar presents two concerts at the Riga jazz venue M/Darbnīca. M/Darbnīca is one of Riga’s key jazz clubs, combining a creative atmosphere with an international programme. The cozy jazz villa has become a meeting place for local jazz enthusiasts as well as guest artists from across Europe.

The concert evening on Saturday, March 7, opens at 18:00 with singer Kadri Voorand In Duo With Raul Ojamaa. Kadri Voorand is one of Estonia’s most internationally recognized jazz artists. Together with guitarist Raul Ojamaa, an intimate and dynamic dialogue unfolds, where improvisation, sensitivity, and Kadri’s distinctive vocal expression come together.

Later that evening at 20:30, the young jazz talents Mikk Kaasik and Marten Männa take the stage with their ensemble Some Times. Joining them as a special guest is the highly regarded bassist Janno Trump. Kaasik and Männa’s music draws inspiration from jazz fusion and funk and has been influenced by bands such as Snarky Puppy, Sungazer, Dirty Loops and KNOWER.

Both acts are part of this year’s main programme of Jazzkaar and will delight Estonian audiences again in April. The Riga concerts — “Jazzkaar meets Riga” — are part of Jazzkaar’s international activities, aimed at introducing Estonian jazz music and the Jazzkaar festival to international markets and creating new collaboration opportunities.

The concert evening in Riga is organized in cooperation with the jazz club M/Darbnīca. Estonian jazz musicians are brought to Latvia’s southern neighbour with the support of Estonian Business and Innovation Agency and Visit Estonia.
