Animal Image is a musical work created for Perttu Saksa’s documentary of the same name. The improvised compositions delve into the connection between humans and animals – an ancient bond that transcends written language and fictional storytelling. This captivating ambient soundscape will be brought to life at Christmas Jazz by Verneri Pohjola on trumpet, Mika Kallio on drums and percussion, and Kirke Karja on piano.
“When I saw Perttu Saksa’s breathtaking footage, I knew Animal Image was too inspiring a project to turn down. No one has ever approached my music with such vision and depth before. I feel this film elevates my compositions to a whole new level. I am incredibly proud of this work and hope the listeners will feel the same,” says composer Verneri Pohjola.
Verneri Pohjola is one of Europe’s most celebrated jazz musicians today. His playing style is both powerful and distinctive, delivering warmth and vibrancy to his audiences. Pohjola’s compositions are bold and playful, demonstrating his exceptional talent for crafting captivating and dynamic melodies that highlight his virtuosic, progressive approach to the trumpet. At Christmas Jazz, Pohjola will be joined by acclaimed Finnish drummer Mika Kallio and the passionate pianist Kirke Karja to present a fresh interpretation of the Animal Image soundtrack.
