For the dazzling Estonian jazz singer and composer Kadri Voorand, this year’s Jazzkaar is already the 15th. „For this special event, I would like to create a sound that wraps us in happy thoughts with its soft mass, and which, in addition to highlighting beauty, would also hold balance in the form of some stronger impulse,“ Voorand says. In addition to specially composed new songs, the concert features material from the recently released album, „In Duo with Mihkel Mälgand,“ which is characterised by a somewhat more minimalistic harmony than before. Music performed at the concert is arranged for a larger ensemble, where Kadri and bassist Mihkel Mälgand are joined by a string quartet. The concert adds an even broader dimension to the album’s music, expressed in ethereal layers of string instruments and vocal, mixed with tasteful electronic manipulations and beat elements. The improvisational playground of the musicians is in symbiosis with electronic effects and soulful poetry. They do not set stylistic boundaries in blending elements of pop, folk, jazz and even rock.

Kadri Voorand is a versatile vocalist, pianist and composer whose passionate performance has gained a lot of acclaim both at home and abroad. Although she has been recently mainly focused on her solo programme and the vocal ensemble Estonian Voices, her work is said to have taken her from one extreme to another. She has performed as a soloist with numerous musicians both in Estonia and abroad and produced seven albums, four of which have been recognised at the Estonian Music Awards. The latest album, „In Duo with Mihkel Mälgand“ will be released internationally under ACT on 28 February 2020.

Voorand is a graduate of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and is currently one of the youngest lecturers there.
