ROMARE (UK)

Archie Fairhurst a.k.a. Romare draws inspiration from the diverse Afro-American culture. With his artist name he pays tribute to the American artist Romare Bearden who has significantly influenced the Afro-American visual culture. Like Bearden, Romare too uses references to different periods and genres as the ‘construction material’ for his pieces. The focus on blues and jazz in his first album has been more recently complemented by references to disco, funk and psychedelic music, providing enticing fuel to the soulful dance music lovers on the opening night of Jazzkaar.
