Supergroup Take 6 has released 14 albums, which have brought them a total of ten Grammy awards, 19 Grammy nominations, and ten highest gospel music awards Dove. Take 6 has its leading position in vocal jazz in a strong grip taking no shortcuts with any albums or concerts and being a great paragon to many modern vocal groups.
The uniqueness of Take 6 is in the extraordinary harmony of the six voices, and in a repertoire that is always open to new challenges. The exceptional style of Take 6 is built on a broad musical spectrum that covers genres from gospel to hip-hop and jazz to pop. The sextet performs their clever vocal arrangements not only with visual ease and playfulness but also with absolute technical mastery. They show lead way to many of today’s vocal ensembles.
The masculine sextet is in demand all over the world. They have repeatedly performed in the White House and have also taken the role of a cultural ambassador for the USA in many countries. Recently, at the reopening of diplomatic relations between the USA and Cuba, Take 6 was the first American vocal group to perform in the island state. The Christmas tour of the group is in particularly high demand for its warm and hearty show is appealing to a wide audience. Yet, the group surprises with each new record. Their newest album, Believe, was released this year and contains both the original creations of the group members as well as covers. In Estonia the group shall perform material from their latest record as well as their most popular hits and favourite Christmas songs.
At their concerts and on their records Take 6 has enjoyed working with the absolute top of the American musical world, including Ella Fitzgerald, George Benson, Al Jarreau, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and many others. This time, the group will take stage together with a local vocal ensemble, Estonian Voices. After the release of their debut album, Ole hea (transl: be good), the ensemble has been in high demand at Estonian concert venues and their performances have also taken them to many other European countries. The creative leader of the group is Kadri Voorand, who has created also most of the group’s charming arrangements.
In 2002, Take 6 gave a sold-out show for 4000 people in Tallinn performed and in 2010 they repeated the success. This year, the 21st Christmas Jazz festival will take place from November 25 to December 13, whereas the headliner Take 6 together with Estonian Voices will give two concerts together– on December 3 in Tartu, Vanemuise Concert Hall, and on December 4 in Tallinn, Nordea Concert Hall.
