This year, The Urban Project starts on 15th April with a train ride to Keila, continues on 16th April in Paldiski and lasts throughout Jazzkaar. Tallinn is filled with music and trams, harbours, airport, squares, streets of Old Town host cool jazz concerts. Second year in a row, Urban Project also travel to Viljandi and Tartu. Artists, dancers and passerbies are pulled into the musicians mix.
The head of Urban Project’s performers is saxophone player Siim Aimla. He joins several music sturends from G. Ots Music School, Heino Eller’s Tartu Music School, UT Viljandi Culture Academy and Estonian Music and Theatre Academy. This year, young musicians from Saue and Pärnu Music School are joining the crowd. International dimension is given by Finnish drummer Tatu Rönkkö and North Sea Round Town’s Stephanie Francke and Paulo Bouwman. Lot’s of dance is added to the happenings by Free Flow Dance Studio and Tallinn Swing Dance Society. Artistic touch is given by Sally Studio young artists.
Favourite areas to perform have so far been in the Old Town of Tallinn, thus keep your eyes open on Harju Street, on Vabaduse square, Viru Street and Müürivahe Street between Reval Café and My City Hotel. Some troubadours can be found at the airport in the luggage area and in Tallinn Port D-Terminal. You can walk on a magic carpet, be part of a jazz parade and participate in the Jazz Tram. I
Six schools in Tallinn will get a surprise jazz call at the lunch hour – and we’d like to keep the schools a secret until the jazz is there. In Viru Centre, several quick jazz mobs will happen and the visitors of Kaubamaja’s Women World might be able to spot jazz mannequins. Commuters can listen to sweet lift music in a particular office building and hundreds of cars in a traffic jam enjoy some musical entertainment.
Urban Project will be in Viljandi on 18th April when several urban space activities will take place in café Fellin, in the library, near Uku centre and Centrum. On 25th April, people of Tartu should visit Tasku centre, Rüütli Street and the general citu centre area. All musicians travel to these towns by special Elron jazz train where the passengers can enjoy musical improvisations in the C-section of the train throughout the journey.
The Reval Café lunch hours in Telliskivi and Müürivahe will be spiked with jazz as well. From 20th to 24th April Otsa school musicians perform at noon in Dubliner bar.
