When I worked with Salif Keita, I used South African and West African musicians. I was surprised at how well they could play my music. But when we got talking they said: ‘Man, we grew up with your music in the village. All we were listening to was Weather Report.’ What is now called world music is greatly influenced by the music we played on Mysterious Traveller. I know Black Market was very influential to people like Youssou N’Dour.
