Opening with a free concert day featuring numerous young talents from MUBA and a standout performance by Kristjan Randalu, the festival delighted audiences with over 140 musical events. Showcasing eight collaborative projects between Estonian and international musicians, Jazzkaar drew more than 19,300 concert visits.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every concert in the festival\u2019s main programme delivered a distinct experience. \u201cAlongside the electrifying performances of headliners <strong>James Carter <\/strong>and <strong>Jazzmeia Horn<\/strong>, audiences were equally moved by the subtle and refined playing of the masters known from <strong>Snarky Puppy<\/strong> \u2013 a powerful contrast on the emotional spectrum. For the first time, the Jazzkaar main programme included a world-class international big band, the <strong>Aarhus Jazz Orchestra<\/strong>. Its conductor, <strong>Nikolai Bogelund<\/strong>, praised the collaboration with our own singer and composer <strong>Karmen R\u00f5ivassepp<\/strong> as the best ever,\u201d said <strong>Anne Erm<\/strong>, Jazzkaar\u2019s founder and artistic director.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEstonian performers\u2019 bold international collaborations demonstrated the high level and creativity of our musicians \u2013 many have already reached international stages, and others are well on their way,\u201d added Erm. In addition to Karmen R\u00f5ivassepp and the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, other standout collaborations included Norwegian guitarist <strong>Eivind Aarset<\/strong>, who performed in <strong>Kristjan Randalu<\/strong>\u2019s exceptional ensemble; Norwegian and Swedish musicians featured in <strong>Kertu Aer<\/strong>\u2019s quintet \u2013 <strong>Thiery Marazanye <\/strong>(piano), <strong>Albert St\u00f8ver Rygh<\/strong> (guitar), and <strong>Benjamin Andersson<\/strong> (drums); and <strong>Anni Elif Egecioglu<\/strong>, a versatile Finnish artist and member of <strong>MiaMee<\/strong>. <strong>Erki P\u00e4rnoja<\/strong> performed with his former schoolmate, Swedish composer and bassist <strong>Patrik Grundstr\u00f6m<\/strong>. <strong>Maria Faust<\/strong> brought together young Norwegian trumpeter <strong>Oscar Andreas Haug <\/strong>and Danish trombonist <strong>Mads Hyhne<\/strong> in the ensemble The Economics, which presented music for the theatre production <em>Moneyland<\/em>. <strong>Mathei Florea<\/strong> and his Berlin-based Nordic contemporary jazz group <strong>New Grounds<\/strong> shared a special concert evening with world-renowned, New York-based guitarist <strong>Gilad Hekselman<\/strong>. Meanwhile, the <strong>Madis Muul Trio <\/strong>delivered a memorable performance with <strong>Giridhar Udupa<\/strong>, one of India\u2019s most celebrated and beloved percussionists.<\/p>\n<p>Jazzkaar 2025 was held from 20\u00a0April to 1\u00a0May at multiple venues, including Telliskivi Creative City, Von Krahl Theatre, Fotografiska Tallinn, and the Alexela Concert Hall, offering music lovers more than 140 events \u2013 among them 48 main programme concerts. In addition, audiences enjoyed a free concert day, urban space projects in Tallinn, Tartu, P\u00e4rnu, Hiiumaa, and \u2013 for the first time \u2013 Ida-Virumaa, along with Arne Maasik\u2019s photo exhibition, artist talks, and masterclasses. This year\u2019s festival also brought performances to audiences in Haapsalu, Otep\u00e4\u00e4, Tartu, Viljandi, and V\u00f5ru.<\/p>\n<p>Jazzkaar 2025 recorded over 19,300 visits, including 8,750 ticketed attendees. The festival also welcomed an exceptional number of jazz sector delegates. Leading jazz publications such as <em>All About Jazz<\/em>, <em>Jazzwise<\/em>, <em>Jazz\u2019n\u2019More<\/em>, and <em>Jazzthetik<\/em> were represented, along with editors from the national broadcasters of Finland, Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jazzkaar 2025 in numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 48 main programme concerts, including 3 home concerts, 7 concerts outside Tallinn, and 13 as part of the free concert day<br \/>\n\u2013 82 urban space concerts featuring over 90 young musicians, with the project reaching Ida-Virumaa for the first time<br \/>\n\u2013 17 events on the free concert day, including 13 concerts, morning yoga, a record fair, a jazz-funk workshop for children, and a one-hour disco<br \/>\n\u2013 Over 140 music events across Estonia<br \/>\n\u2013 More than 19,300 total concert visits<br \/>\n\u2013 8,750 ticketed visits<br \/>\n\u2013 Over 7,900 visits to the urban space project<br \/>\n\u2013 Nearly 1,100 visitors braved the rain for the free concert day<br \/>\n\u2013 215 musicians from 17 countries performed<br \/>\n\u2013 4 Klassikaraadio broadcasts and recordings: Kristjan Randalu\u2019s <em>Marginalia and Dividends<\/em>, Maria Faust &amp; The Economics\u2019 <em>Moneyland<\/em>, Karmen R\u00f5ivassepp &amp; Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and <em>Kertu Aer 4<br \/>\n<\/em>\u2013 110 volunteers contributed to organising the festival<br \/>\n\u2013 20 international delegates attended, including journalists, festival directors, and jazz club leaders<br \/>\n\u2013 Jazzkaar\u2019s media team of 14 volunteer photographers captured nearly 2,700 festival photos<br \/>\n\u2013 Artists and crew consumed 45 kilograms of fresh pickles backstage during the week<\/p>\n<p>Main sponsors: JURA, Jazz Pesulad, and <em>Eesti P\u00e4evaleht.<\/em> Annual supporters: United Motors, Nordic Hotel Forum, Tallink, and Aktaprint.
