\u201c<\/span>Christmas Jazz warms listeners\u2019 hearts and fulfills several of Jazzkaar\u2019s long-held dreams. For the first time, legendary jazz icons Dave Holland and Zakir Hussain will perform in Estonia, joining Chris Potter in a sonic journey blending Indian ragas with jazz. Exciting new voices like Veronica Swift and Lady Blackbird will take the stage, while the enchanting music of English organist-pianist Kit Downes will offer a soothing escape,<\/span><\/i>\u201d says artistic director <\/span>Anne Erm<\/b>, who is thrilled with this year\u2019s programme. She adds that Estonian musicians will give strong competition to the international stars at Christmas Jazz.<\/span><\/p>\n The festival kicks off on 25 November with international stars \u2013 bassist <\/span>Dave Holland<\/b>, tabla virtuoso <\/span>Zakir Hussain<\/b> and saxophonist <\/span>Chris Potter <\/b>performing as the <\/span>Crosscurrents Trio <\/b>at the Estonia Concert Hall. On Friday, 29 November, American jazz sensation <\/span>Veronica Swift<\/b> will light up the Noblessner Seafront Quarter with her energetic and fearless show. On 1 December, Cuban pianist and composer <\/span>Alfredo Rodriguez <\/b>will bring vibrant warmth to help audiences forget the winter chill. For a festive mood, head to the Niguliste Museum on 4 December for a concert by award-winning British composer and organist <\/span>Kit Downes<\/b>. Then, on 7 December, with support from NOBE, the powerful diva <\/span>Lady Blackbird<\/b> makes her Estonian debut, presenting her newly released second album,\u00a0<\/span>Slang Spirituals<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n Christmas Jazz highlights exciting collaborations between Estonian and international artists. On 30 November, Finnish trumpeter <\/span>Verneri Pohjola<\/b>, renowned drummer <\/span>Mika Kallio<\/b> and Estonian pianist <\/span>Kirke Karja <\/b>will join forces at the Kumu Auditorium to perform the live score for <\/span>Perttu Saksa<\/b>\u2019s documentary <\/span>Animal Image<\/span><\/i>. That same evening, Estonian vocalist <\/span>Anett Tamm <\/b>will collaborate with French guitarist <\/span>David Chevallier<\/b>\u2019s trio to present their joint project\u00a0<\/span>Borders<\/span><\/i>. On 29 November, soul artist <\/span>Rita Ray<\/b> will celebrate the 5th anniversary of her highly acclaimed debut album\u00a0<\/span>Old Love Will Rust<\/span><\/i>\u00a0at the Noblessner Foundry\u2019s Nobel Hall. On 1 December, the sound of a classical female choir will blend with the captivating harmonies of a jazz trio, as <\/span>Kammernaiskoor Sireen<\/b>, along with <\/span>Artiss Boriss<\/b>, <\/span>Janno Trump<\/b> and <\/span>Ramuel Tafenau<\/b>, present their program <\/span>Making Waves<\/span><\/i>. Celebrating <\/span>Siim Aimla<\/b>\u2019s 50th birthday, the jubilee concert will feature Aimla alongside <\/span>Marianne Leibur<\/b>, the <\/span>MUBA vocal ensemble<\/b> and the <\/span>Estonian Dream Big Band<\/b>, premiering Aimla\u2019s new work\u00a0<\/span>21st Century Blues<\/span><\/i>. The festival will reach beyond Tallinn, with <\/span>Hedvig Hanson<\/b>, <\/span>Marek Talts<\/b> and <\/span>Taavo Remmel<\/b> performing their programme\u00a0<\/span>Arrival<\/span><\/i>\u00a0at Niguliste Church, Viljandi Baptist Church and Tartu St. John\u2019s Church. In P\u00e4rnu\u2019s Endla K\u00fc\u00fcn, audiences can enjoy a poetic and musical fusion with <\/span>Guido Kangur<\/b> and <\/span>Oleg Pissarenko<\/b>. On 14 December, Pissarenko will also perform at the Kumu Auditorium, presenting his album\u00a0<\/span>Music of Your Condition<\/span><\/i>\u00a0on guitar and piano.<\/span><\/p>\n Christmas Jazz will culminate on 15 December with the spectacular special project\u00a0<\/span>Zappa!<\/span><\/i>. Conducted by <\/span>Kaspar M\u00e4nd<\/b> and featuring soloists <\/span>Vaiko Eplik<\/b> and <\/span>Valter Soosalu<\/b>, alongside a 30-member orchestra and an all-star jazz ensemble, this performance will explore one of the 20th century\u2019s greatest musical enigmas, <\/span>Frank Zappa<\/b>.
