During the republic of Estonia 100th birthday next year, Jazzkaar will open our spring festival with the one-time performane of the grand piece \u201cSaja lugu\u201d (\u201cStory of a hundred\u201d). The documentary cross-genre work will portrait the honest thoughts, feelings and personal stories about living in Estonia today from the hundred Estonians. The authors of the performance are Erki P\u00e4rnoja and Jaak Prints and it will take place in an old shipbuilding hangar of port Noblessner.<\/p>\n

The poetical generalisation of Estonians here and today will feature original music by Erki P\u00e4rnoja and staging by Jaak Prints. Together with live-video, the audience will be faced with a hundred people and musicians.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe selection is no hall of fame, they are all ordinary people who have been carefully picked amongst all the candidates. They are all very different but yet similar. On the opening night of Jazzkaar on April 20, they will be all on the stage at the special cathedral-like factory hangar, which for one night will transform into an unique concert venue,\u201d says the musical director Erki P\u00e4rnoja.<\/p>\n

The artistic director of the festival Anne Erm adds: \u201cJazzkaar 2018 will be opened with a bow towards the Estonian Republic. It is heartwarming to see how this project touches so many Estonians and has brought us such a great team.\u201d<\/p>\n

The music of \u201cSaja lugu\u201d will be played by a live band consisting of Estonia\u2019s best musicians, together with the author Erki P\u00e4rnoja \u2013 Joel-Rasmus Remmel on keyboards, Sander M\u00f6lder on cello and electronics, Peedu Kass on double bass, Kristjan Kallas on drums and percussion, together with a brass group, and vocalists Anna P\u00f5ldvee and S\u00e4nni Noormets.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaja lugu\u201d will take a visual form through a photo book by Kaupo Kikkas, where the hundred Estonians will be portrayed on photographs together with their most personal thoughts. The texts have been composed of the stories of the people by Laur Kaunissaare. The book is set to release by April 20, 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaja lugu\u201d will be brought out with the help of Viru Keskus. The performance will take place at Noblessner Tallinn Shipyard shipbuilding hangar (Allveelaeva 4). Due to the peculiarity of the show and location, every seat will have unique visibility. We ask to dress according to the weather conditions.<\/p>\n
