Pianist, keyboardist, and composer Madis Muul composes music that can be described as cosmic and cinematic. His trio \u2013 featuring Karl-Juhan Laanesaar on drums and Raimond M\u00e4gi on double bass \u2013 delivers a virtuosic, cohesive sound, skillfully painting vivid sonic landscapes. At this year\u2019s Jazzkaar, the trio will be joined by Muul\u2019s mentor, Giridhar Udupa. Reflecting on their collaboration, Muul shares: \u201cA few years ago, I developed a deep interest in South Indian Carnatic music and rhythms. Madis Muul<\/strong> has composed and recorded music for ensembles such as Flavor, Power Play, New Dimensions, MA, Madis Muul Hextet, LUUM, and Madis Muul Trio. A highly sought-after musician, he is actively involved in various jazz and pop projects, performing with JT Conception, Allan J\u00e4rve, MA, Raul Vaigla, Sofia Rubina, and Lenna. Beyond his live performances, Muul has played a key role in theatre productions, both as a composer and performer. In 2022, he was honoured with the Estonian Theatre Award for composing the original score for Oidipus.Antigone<\/em> (VAT Theatre). That same year, his composition Secret Creek<\/em> earned second place in the jazz category at the prestigious International Songwriting Competition, where the jury featured legendary artists such as Tom Waits, Coldplay, Lonnie L. Smith, and Jack DeJohnette.<\/p>\n Giridhar Udupa<\/strong> is one of India\u2019s most renowned and beloved percussionists. His extensive instrumental repertoire includes ghatam tharang, konnakol, and the ghatam \u2013 a uniquely resonant clay pot drum that plays a vital role in traditional Indian music.
