The biggest jazz festival of the Baltics, JAZZKAAR is getting a new home in Telliskivi creative city and boasts with a large variety of enticing artists.
The previously announced headliners of Jazzkaar are the winner of 5 Grammy Awards – saxophonist David Sanborn, America’s most popular jazz-pop singer Gregory Porter, guitar virtuoso John Scofield, and a shooting star from Israel – Ester Rada. In addition, Jazzkaar proudly presents some newcomers to the programme: the world famous trumpeter and composer from Lebanon – Ibrahim Maalouf, the master of harmonica – Gregoire Maret and the French jazz-rock legend Magma.
New concert programmes as well as records are to be expected during Jazzkaar by many Estonian musicians – Oleg Pissarenko, Raul Sööt, Aleksander Paal, Raul Vaigla, Ingrid Lukas, Kaspar Uljas present them in Tallinn and other places in Estonia. Siim Aimla is bringing a brand new concert programme “The Possibility Of Love In 21th Century Estonia” that is specially composed for Jazzkaar to the stage, performed by Estonian Dream Big Band and based on the texts of five beloved Estonian poets. To celebrate the 100th birthday of legendary Billie Holiday, Liisi Koikson and her band have put together a special memorial concert.
Europe’s best jazz is brought to Jazzkaar by ECM artist Mathias Eick with crisply fresh soundscapes from Norway, the pioneer of finding new dimensions in piano playing – Hauschka from Germany, and Danish jazz queen Cæcilie Norby. The scent of world music is created by Mehmet Polat Trio with Turkish and Malian music, and by an enticing Albanian singer Elina Duni. Jazzkaar’s sister festival Kaunas Jazz is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and Ąžuolas Paulauskas Project is bringing the birthday mood to Estonia. In return, the famous band Abraham’s Café is going to perform at Kaunas Jazz this year besides Jazzkaar.
Jazzkaar Club Nights on Fridays and Saturdays invite to enjoy the energizing club rhythms and moods. The music is played both at Vaba Lava and in the Red House by the best DJs until the last man standing.
Expect both newcomers and international stars – the fresh country rock band Larkin Poe, Jarrod Lawson from USA, a valued live performer Owen Pallett from Canada, and so on.
