On 18 July, Jazzkaar will bring acclaimed singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier together with the vocal jazz ensemble Take 6 to perform at the Song Celebration Grounds in Tartu as part of the European Capital of Culture program. Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, 23 January at 10 a.m.

Jazzkaar has been working towards bringing Jacob Collier to Estonia for a long time, and this year, when Tartu holds the title of the European Capital of Culture 2024, it will become a reality. “It was in 2016, after the release of Collier’s debut album In My Room, when we wanted to invite this super-talented artist to Jazzkaar, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out at that time. Therefore, we are even more delighted to introduce Collier to his numerous fans here now, in the year of the European Capital of Culture,” said Anne Erm, artistic director of Jazzkaar.

The 29-year-old multitalented Jacob Collier, based in London, has been hailed by many prestigious publications as one of the most innovative musicians of his generation – his work spans pop, jazz and classical music.

“Collier’s distinctive musical language and unique video solutions inspire many and captivate audiences of all ages,” said Kati Torp, creative director of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024. “He is particularly known worldwide for his very energetic concerts, where he turns the audience into a massive multivoice choir. We can expect that Collier will also transform the audience at the Tartu Song Celebration Grounds into a large united choir.”

Collier recorded his debut album In My Room entirely at his home – he wrote and performed all the arrangements himself, later winning two Grammy Awards for the album. He has collaborated with renowned names such as Coldplay, John Mayer, Ty Dolla $ign, Tori Kelly, Daniel Caesar, SZA and many others.

In 2018, Collier began recording his quadruple-album Djesse with over 50 tracks, where each part explores a different musical style. Each of the three albums released so far has won a Grammy Award, making him the only British composer to win a Grammy for each of his first four albums. Collier plans to release the fourth part of Djesse in February.

Joining Collier on 18 July at the Tartu Song Celebration Grounds is the 10-time Grammy Award winning and globally acclaimed a cappella vocal sextet Take 6, whom Quincy Jones has dubbed “the most masterful voices on this planet”. They performed a joint concert in the United States last year, and now the collaboration comes to Europe for the first time.

Tickets for Jacob Collier and Take 6 performing as part of the European Capital of Culture program go on sale on 23 January at 10:00 on Piletilevi and Piletikeskus.
